The jeans thing, at least most places I worked, was for charity. We're using it for the American Cancer Society, but it's only for a month.
The one place we HAD to have the casual thing was when I worked in Birmingham. The big difference from most places was that it was $30/month, lasted all summer, and meant you could wear ... shorts to work! The money went to MS or something similar, but management allowed it because it was so hot and humid that a suit would be soaked in sweat within a few minutes of being outside. (There was a period when I was there where the nightly lows were 35C. Shudder.)
I hope your body adapts to the wakeup schedule. It's a pain to change it.
