Oddly enough, yes. The current kerfluffle is over (what else?) the recent decision by the c*b*l; some new faces decided to pop in and see how much of a shitstorm they could stir up.
HA! I actually used the nn vi reader the last time I posted to a.g regularly. This whole GUI user friendly netnews concept is completely foreign to me.
I had the audicity to be getting married for love, and not for citizenship. It was not the cool, politically correct thing for the happening bisexual netgoth. ;)
I started using mozilla's thunderbird this morning at Peter's suggestion and I gotta say... I love it. much less cumbersome that agent ever was for text.
And no more google issues. (How sad am I that the beloved google is still b0rked after 2 days!)
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.gothic/topics is probably the easiest way. OTOH, you can also use Outlook Express or Windows Mail to do this as well, assuming you know of a news server that you can use.
Remember how we set up a tunnel for port 25 for email back a while ago? Do that for 119 as well. Then point your favorite newsreader at localhost when you've got putty open to ninehells.
you'll notice that i haven't sent mail across your server in ages - something got fouled with putty and/or mozilla, and that tunnel trick stopped working because i couldn't log in successfully.
which is a moot point when i'm at the office, but i'm beginning to agree that googlegroups does, in fact, suck.
It's good clean fun. Retardboy [1] came in spewing allegations of cheating at the_siobhan, hellsop, the_macross and rest of us because we'd caught Dallas's C14 bid cheating.
Everyone (and I mean everyone) told him to fuck off. He brought along a couple of sockpuppets who got the same treatment.
It was like a community closing ranks on an enemy outsider. Pretty well unheard of in my experience, and totally worth skimming through (Retardboy gets a bit repetitive after a while).
The subsequent plan for a net.goth get together in Saratoga Springs next year is also promising.
[1] The C13 committee chair. Posting anonymously and claiming to have no vested interest. Naturally we figured out who he really was after a bit of research.
I've got a newsreader. I just don't have a newsserver to connect to because Qwest doesn't think that people in the pacific northwest deserve a newsserver (though their Denver customers have one.)
I've been pestered them a few times, but they won't budge. Bastards.

Perhaps some sort of huge Evil Conspiracy whereby only members of the C*b*l can have graphics...?

I was using Google Groups but that is hella tempting. Merci!
Apparently, the PhD I boinked a couple months back worked on PINE in his undergrad days. Sad how sexy that was to me. ;P

For more serious usenet fun I use Agent.
They appear to have discontinued the free version tho' (FreeAgent), although I'm sure I have download of it somewhere.
