Write Every Day: Day 11

I went to a family birthday party yesterday. In person. Outdoors, but still. I am related to a lot of people, holy crap. My kid came with me and at one point I told her to just assume everybody in the place was a cousin, because I don't even know any more. (I had a conversation with my father's cousin at one point where she said when she was a kid in Ireland she had 63 cousins, she counted once, and I'm like that is not healthy, what the hell.) I also had a conversation with an aunt about getting together and comparing what we have for family genealogy because apparently she has come up with some new info.

The point of the party was my father's oldest brother, who turns 90 this month and he is just as acerbic, hilarious, and entirely inappropriate as ever. Apparently the secret to living a long life is to always be at least a little bit of an asshole.

Then I came home and plopped down 200 words before going to bed. \o/
