Sounds to me like she'd fit right in in the American South: lots of perfectly nice helpful people who are unfortunately and inexplicably bigoted in the worst ways and completely incapable of thinking any other way about the topic of bigotry.

If Canada had a human spaceflight program, I'd so totally emigrate. =/
