oof, yeah, Mieville plus Bacigalupi is a grim pairing. I still get shudders when I remember a scene in the latter's purportedly YA "Shipbreaker". I think you'd like, er appreciate, "The Water Knife" as well. I'm behind on my Mieville, I should fix that. :-)
