Most of what I've been reading has been saying an N95 with a good seal so that's what I've been using.

We had a couple of days of smoke last summer too - not this bad, but you could definitely smell it - so I have the sinking feeling this is going to become a regular thing and I'm going to have to up my mask game at some point.
