Write Every Day: Day 1

Welcome to Write Every Day, February edition.

I tend to do my writing at end of day, so I'm usually adding my updates for the day prior. However you do it is fine, but please post your comment to the most recent entry and add the date so it's easier for my date-adverse brain to keep organized.

Feel free to talk about your goals for this month! I am actually writing fanfic for the first time in my life. I wrote a couple of pages as a piece of character development for an RPG I'm playing and the thing took over my brain and now I'm writing the whole story. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

On Day 1, I added 501 more words to my m/m romance novella, "Ed and Ev Are Not in Love," which is the working title and no longer actually the vibe of the story either. I'd intended to finish this by now, but I stalled near the end, and now it seems to have grown longer legs? That's honestly probably a defense mechanism. I can't handle not having this feel-good project to come home to at night, given current circumstances *gestures at US politics, etc.*. Anyway, I do plan to finish it this month, and I also started a dark little weird western short story the other day that I intend to finish as soon as I figure out what it's supposed to be telling us.

ETA: THANK YOU for hosting us this month! I apologize for my rudeness in not remembering to say that sooner.

Hello! Thank you for hosting again! 😊

I'm supposed to be trying to finish a WiP at the moment, but instead I'm having fun sat [community profile] threesentenceficathon, and I'll probably keep writing for that until it ends. My WiPs will have to wait a little longer.

Jan 1st - 2340 words, the start of a challenge fic that I hope to finish tomorrow, and 4 ficathon fills. At least I've been making solid progress towards my GYWO goal...

For the 1st: a little work on both my [community profile] holly_poly fic and my [personal profile] candyheartsex assignment.

Goals: finalise the Holly Poly thing, finish both my assignment and a treat for Candy Hearts, and then write my High Adrenaline fic.

I am actually writing fanfic for the first time in my life.

That is so cool, so glad you're having fun with it! :D

I'm glad you're enjoying writing your fanfic!

1 Feb.: 1530 words of "I Don't Like Your Girlfriend — Remix." Finished and posted chapter 47. Not one of the best chapters, either in the original or the remix (though I do think the remix improved it), but the only way to get from chapter 46 to chapter 48 is through chapter 47. Besides which an event in it sets up events for the next couple of chapters.

Thanks for hosting this month!

I love when a story takes over my brain. Except then everything else becomes inconvenient not-writing-story time.

413 words today, which I only know because Saturday is for typing things up. In terms of space in the notebook, it was about two pages.

Thanks for hosting!

Day 1: 705 words, mulling over something.

Yay for fanfic! I'm glad you're having fun. I haven't written any to speak of for a long time, and was just thinking I should try to write some again. *Ponders* ;-)

I (as a rule) fucking fate fanfic.
But it is how we start as kids, and it turns out to be complicated. No judgement from me.
It turns out (as an adult) to be harder than expected.

Day 1 was a thesis fail, but I wrote 257 lines for someone who needed help to progress through a headspace and I view that as a productive use of an evening. We go again.

Thank you. Right now I'M in awe of my word count, it's been years since I written over 2k on a semi-regular basis. I set myself the goal of over 1k per day for the first two weeks of the year, then over 800 words per day for the rest of the month, then the ficathon started, I decided to give it a go this year, and... so many words! O.O I have no idea how I'm doing it!

Learning how to deal with "walking chapters" has been a recurring struggle for me — figuring out what can be skipped, what has to go in because it contains necessary events, and what could be skipped but should probably go in anyway because it shows character or setting.
