And in Big Bastard Corporation land, Nike is buying out Converse. This makes me very very very unhappy.

While this news is kind of sad for nostalgic reasons, it's worth noting that Converse has been similar to Nike in one respect for the past couple of years: After escaping bankruptcy protection in 2000/2001, the new ownership group shut down the Converse production facilities in the USA (http://www.chucksconnection.com/usa.html) and moved them to overseas sweatshops. So while they were still a privately owned company, they were contributing to the same evil system as Nike, Reebok and all the other corporate behemoths.

But then again, it's nearly impossible to find a pair of running shoes that aren't made overseas...
