I once managed to get between a mother 'coon and her baby. (Pup?) I couldn't figure out why she was approaching me - normally they're not keen on letting people get too close. I was starting to get really nervous about the chance she was rabid.

Then I passed the baby on the way out and realized what had been going on. Even then she wasn't overly aggressive.
