do a new thing every day

I just had my very first ever experience with a Neti Pot.

Weirdest. Sensation. Ever.

Sounds like you are getting water into the Eustachian tubes.

Definitely go slower. Although some people naturally have larger Eustachian tubes and so can't use it at all.

I've always had nasal problems so maybe this is the case.

The actual pot rather than the squeeze-bottle is less likely to cause problems in that regard, because it's solely dependent on gravity. It's harder to accidentally force water some place it shouldn't go.

If you do give it another go, also make sure to be very gentle if you are blowing your nose afterwards.
