the plague diaries: Day Four

So I'm the one who's not contagious right? And I'm quarantining anyway, because virus in the house and the not-zero risk of being asymptomatic and still infectious.

So guess who's not here?

Housemate announced they had to send some mail out, so off they went. I did offer to do it for them. That was three-four hours ago, and they haven't returned yet.

Oh wait, maybe they went to the hospital. They did say they wanted to. If that's the case I probably won't see them until tomorrow.

Kitchen boxes are unpacked. Some stuff I just said fuck it and threw it back into a box because what am I going to do with two coffee makers or six corkscrews? I'll let the housemate go through it and see if they need to take any of it with them, and then maybe whoever moves into the basement can probably use some of it. Whatever is left will go to my sister's shelter. They take donations of household items for their clients when they manage to get them permanent housing.

For my next trick, watching youtube videos about how to change the bulbs on potlights until I find somebody who is showing my specific model. It could be that the person who installed it just screwed it too tight to loosen - we had one light where we finally just had to smash the cover to get into it. But I want to be a lot more confident that's the actual problem before I take a pair of pliers to it.

Said pot-light is in my toilet and it's the only light in there so it's peeing in the dark until I figure it out. The bulb did last over 10 years in the first place.

[ETA] They did in fact go to the hospital. Kinda surprised they were able to get admitted, but maybe the doctors want to keep them for observation for a while.

They were really sick for the first couple of days. By yesterday evening they seemed to be much improved and today they were able to get dressed and go to the post office.

I mean - just based on symptoms they appeared to be improving.

Ah I see and yeah very possible they heard rattles and rales they didn't like

Possibly. Their main symptoms were gastrointestinal, so I wouldn't' be surprised if they are dehydrated.

ah yeah that'll do it. My students look at me like I'm nuts when I said until about 100 years ago, vomiting/diarrhea was one of the number one killers

Man. 'Member cockscrews? What a flashback. I think I have four.

I did have to google potlight. We call them downlights. I hate them. My house is filled with them.
IME the fittings are pretty standard, with the clips and such, but lord knows if the designs have changed.

My bathroom is also sans window, so if they power goes out I have issues.
But I swear by having something like this around for emergencies:

Yeah, a lot of the models on youtube have the clip. This one the clip seems to be on the interior.

It's a double ring, which seems to indicate that the inner ring should unscrew but there's no grips. And the inner ring actually rotates internally so you can point the light in different directions. I haven't yet found a model online that matches it.

Mostly for light I've just been using the flashlight on my phone. I do have a lantern I could put in there until I figure it out.

Due to recent household combining, we keep running into situations in which we have FAR too many of a thing. Six vacuums. 4 microwaves. So many tiny tables. We also have what I think is far too many can openers but apparently everyone has their favorite. For the rest of it we have been making copious use of our local Buy Nothing group. Today someone finally came and took away the table I named Mr. Flappy.
