Rare plug for a book, I am currently reading Query and it is hilarious. It's entirely just a series of query letters to agents, but since nobody appears to be reading them anyway the protagonist starts drifting into using them almost as diary entries and they just keep getting more and more unhinged. It's awesome and I am loving it.

Sat up with a glass (or 3) of wine last night and noodled about with a scene where Things Are Explained. I'm not good at scenes where people are just talking so I probably deleted as many words as I wrote but I ended up about 300+ ahead.

I was listening to a shoegaze event all day, which turns out to be both good background music for doing chores and also for writing. You know, I don't think I have an actual definition in my head for what constitutes "shoegaze" but since music I want to actively listen to tends to be much crunichier it makes for good aural wallpaper while I focus on other things.

Thank you! I'm amazing myself, I've already written more this year than I had towards the end of March last year, and I thought I was doing well then. On the downside, still haven't touched any of my WiPs that I was supposed to be trying to finish over the first couple of months of the year. The ficathon is proving addictive...

Day 13: 972 words of "Turning of the Year" — surprised I got so much done, because this was a difficult scene that I had no idea going into it how it was going to turn out.
Day 14: Nothing. Knocked on my ass by my shingles vaccine.
Day 15: 2709 words of "I Don't Like Your Girlfriend — Remix" — finished and posted chapter 49, which means I've only got 15 chapters left to go!

"Shoegaze" or "space rock" are the two genres that really, help me focus too, and for the same reason. They're usually my go-to if I'm working from home and trying to concentrate. If I have bad food coma _and_ I need to concentrate, I will usually switch to techno (without words). What I've found is that I can't listen to anything with lyrics if I'm also trying to concentrate. Any words, even if I"ve heard the same 29374902374 times. completely pulls me into the song - I can't multitask like that!

i dont really know what shoegaze is either but i know whenever i hear it or see it i like it. what are some crunchy bands or songs u recommend? i have always described my bass playing as crunchy so i know that's definitely a sound i like.
