Write Every Day: Day 23

Charity walk went a bit sideways last night - I was supposed to be walking with my BIL and nephew and they both said fuck it early on and nipped off to the pub. We were supposed to be walking a big circle but when I got to the turn-back point I thought, well that's kind of boring to do on my lonesome so I just.. kept walking. My 5K turned into a 9K and I made it home in about 2 hours.

And it turned out to be a really nice night for a walk. It was cold crossing the ravine because of the wind (And also NOT PLOWED, for fuck sake Toronto), but the rest of the trip was entirely comfortable.

Passed a used bookstore and spotted this in the window.



Definitely the kind of place where walking through the door would launch one into an adventure featuring trolls and talking animals.

Got home, made myself a hot chocolate with whipped cream and a shot of rum in it and wrote 200+ words.

That sounds like a truly excellent adventure all the way around! YAY!

On Day 23, I finally revisited "Ed and Ev Are Not in Love," took out a bit of the last part I'd written, and figured out how to get it going toward its happily ever after. That work brought with it 394 total words, not including the chunk I deleted.

I need to just - walk out the door and go for an explore more often. I passed lots of interesting shop fronts (like that bookstore) after they were closed.

I always have such a hard time deleting words, even if they aren't working. It feels like a waste, even though I know it's not.

Every time I do something like that I say, "I should do that more often." And then I never do.

Mind you, I probably would if they had more (any!) public bathrooms in Toronto.

The charity walk definitely sounds like more of an adventure than that sort of thing would normally be, but not necessarily in a bad way! Especially with the happy ending!

Day 23: 100 words. I wrote a drabble for a Get Your Words Out plot monster challenge. The plot I had to write was "A prank goes horribly wrong." This was hard for me because I don't like pranks at all, as a general rule. Fortunately, I managed to come up with a way or the prank to go in such a way that the would-be victim actually benefits from it, while the prankster suffers nothing worse than seeing their prank backfire.

I really do have to go out and do things like that more often. It's very good for my headspace.

I hear you exactly on pranks, I hate them. I had a manager who decided my team was all going to play a prank on her boss and I said, "Great! Thanks for telling me! I'll be working from home that day so I'm not even in the same building, have fun!" And then I did.
