What. The. Fuck.

Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report published by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on Friday.

Only $10K? Cheapskates.

No kidding! You'd think the forces of evil would be able to generate more coin.

Not surprised. That's a drop in the bucket compared to the momey those companies are set to lose if countries actually try to meet the emission targets.

i think it's outrageous, but something about the $10k doesn't ring true - who's willing to put their ethics in the garbage and risk being a pariah and labelled "general retard" in their field of smart kids for ten thousand clams? and if these oil companies need this disputed by REAL scientists with actual reputations - not the ones who wear bow ties and demonstrate blenders on infomercials - you'd think they'd be offering a little more than ten grand.

then again, i'm underestimating the stupidity and moral bankruptcy of these oil moguls, which is always a losing strategy.

heh, I was listening to the radio the other day when news of this was circulating, and the spokesman for the thinktank that's offering the incentives was basically saying, "we aren't bribing anyone. and I'm shocked (shocked)that you would hold such a low opinion of scientists to think that their ethics and morality could be bought. I can't believe that you would cast such aspersions by insinuating that they could be bribed. we're simply rewarding and encouraging the process of peer review."

dude, like, put the copy of 1984 down and slowly turn away from the doublespeak.
