1 degree of seperation

One of the things that I really really really like about LiveJournal is that it has achieved enough market saturation that I can sometimes randomly type words into the username - and 99 times out of 100 it will be an actual user.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended up friending clown_shoes.

OK, somebody out there explain to me, using very small words if necessary, why ANYBODY who wants a career in music thinks that American Idol is the way to achieve that goal?
