Performance art reality show

I'm on the way to a party in five minutes, but first I have to tell you CLICK ON THIS LINK

[livejournal.com profile] disastrid is one of the fucking smartest, most creative people I know. If anybody can make this sucker fly, she can.

Which link?

Interestingly, I'm not seeing a banner.
Nor a link.

Strange.

Perhaps "milliondollar" or "banner.gif" are triggering adblock?

Really? That is odd.

The url is www.mymilliondollaryear.net (http://www.mymilliondollaryear.net)

Yup. Adblock has "/banners/" blocked.
Mystery solved.

Admittedly, like siani I'm kinda wondering why I would give money to some Canadian when there are one billion other things I could give my cash to (The Tsunami appeal, fer example).

Or, I could buy myself more beer.

I think both of you have really missed the point.

It's a performance. It started yesterday, it will end on December 31 2005. The point is to watch it unfold and see what she does with it. Whether or not you want to "participate" in the perfomance or just watch it (or ignore it completely) is entirely up to you.

Luckily, she doesn't need to rely on individual donations to make it. ;) This isn't "give me a million dollars", it's a year long art project.

And as to one person making a cash grab, for whatever reason, when there are other money sinks in the world: there's a lot of money in the world. We'll be all right.

She truly is bloody marvellous isn't she?!

I'm utterly fascinated by this project. I really want to see her succeed.

it's not really much of an idea yet though, is it? i mean, it could *get* interesting if she has unusual ideas, which i'm sure she will, being an interesting person, but right now it is just one of those "pay my student loans" things. remember back when webcams were all the rage, and everyone and her sister had pay per view webcams? now it's livejournals, but every aspect of everyone's life is pretty much public property.

there's one interesting thing about the concept- it *is* what everyone's trying to do all the time. make a load of money fast without doing a crummy job, and get famous in the bargain. i suppose that if, at the end of the year, Astrid were to announce that the entire project had been a practical joke on that then it would be art.

don't get me wrong - i really like Astrid, and she *is* terribly clever, desperately funny, and so on, but the idea kind of blows.

You do know it's only January 1, right?
