Slow day at work, so I've been catching up on the news. Christ, it's depressing. Unfortunately I can't get to the BBC from here, and all the North American press wants to talk about is the evacutions.

I'm tired of writing letters to people in Ottawa. I want to take a bus there so I can rant at people in person. The power to know exactly who to smack to most efficiently get the results I want - that's what I want as my Evil Mutant Super Power.

So. Links. First of all, a really interesting summation of what's going on here

[livejournal.com profile] cedarseed has been linked from all over. An artist who has been posting daily updates from Beirut.

Anybody else got any sources they are following?

my source is through both works! (news and tavel agency)

a lot of the news stuff i am unable to talk about, but as far as travel goes, i have a client in Beirut. i was able to contact her two days ago and she said she was to catch a boat to greece. super. then a few hours later an email from her saying she was denied at the pier and told to go to her hotel and wait. i spoke with the ministry of foreign affairs and the embassy and was told a few ships just didn't make it and a fuck-ton of Canadian's over there did NOT register before going. durrr. so what they thought would be 400 people turned into thousands. i was able to get her put on the top of the list for evac, and since i have not spoken to her her.... which can either be very good, or very bad

its a big ol' mess right now

Just the BBC, the Guardian and the Globe. So nothing particularly informative.

No other sources, just BBC and the occasional US network news.

Depressing as all shit. Really annoyed that half my neighbors appear not to care. If I get to go, this should make the trip to Turkey interesting conversation wise.

i have a set of bookmarks cobbled together from various (non-american) news sources, but one outstanding blog that reports about the arab media is [livejournal.com profile] abu_aardvark. i often find insights there that i don't see anywhere else.
