I just reread Lost Souls for the first time since the 80s and it brought back memories of the club scenes pre-AIDS and how it was "oh-so-trendy" to be bi. Loads of people I knew back then did it because it was fashionable and, in some cases, ended up with AIDS since it wasn't a known problem until later in the decade.
I can sort of see where straight men on my age and older aren't as condom aware, since AIDS was pushed as a "gay thing" when they were in their late 20s and up, so they probably think it won't be an issue with them. *buzz* wrong answer!
And, there is now a problem where young gay men are "riding bareback" because they think they aren't going to get anything bad from doing so.
