Re: the cigarette thing. Speaking for myself only from when I was a smoker - I think there's a general if untested consensus that cigarette butts are biodegradable, thus, like apple cores, it's okay to toss them on the ground.
I don't know how that applies to the floors of nightclubs, and I've been guilty of that one too, but biodegradable is the outside excuse.
