The most recent issue of National Geographic Adventure has a Green section that included a blurb about recycling running shoes into thinks like tracks and other sports surfaces: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike_Grind They had some other recycled products (backpacks, maybe clothing as well), but my copy is at home, and the online site doesn't have info on this issue yet.
