got my devil machine, my electronic dream
May. 14th, 2018 03:38 pmI had a dream last night that involved some convoluted circumstances that culminated in me and some guy running up the street naked. We were simultaneously running away from the authorities and trying to catch somebody else and I forget exactly why or what but it was for fate-of-the-world-hangs-in-balance reasons. (My dreams tend to have very byzantine plots.)
In my dreams I have wrinkles, but I am not fat.
I find that really odd, because I've been fat for a hell of a lot longer than I've had wrinkles.

I'm still doing the Spanish on Duolingo but it's going very slowly. (Despacio! I know that one!) I seem to be able to hold about 150 words in my memory and then as I go on to learn new ones, the old ones just overflow and spill out of the back of my head. So end up going back and re-doing the same lessons over and over again, trying to cement things down.
I might have better luck if I actually try talking to somebody. The Toronto Board has Spanish language classes in the summer, and there are various meet-up groups in town, so I might give that a try.
In the meantime I'm still plugging away on my phone. I do most of my lessons on the bus, and the majority of my errors are caused by the pothole-induced typos, so at least I have a good grip on my minuscule 150 words.
You people who are good at languages, you have a super-power and I am very jealous of you.

The tree continues to be in our entire backyard. It has been ascertained that Metrolinx are in charge of the section of track behind our house, and after a couple of false starts I finally managed to get a work order in. They've told me that it could take up to a month to get somebody out to deal with it, so I contacted our city counselor's office in the hopes that they can light a fire under that somebody. I included lots of photos that show how the branch that is currently supporting all the weight of the very large tree is buckling and cracking.
Current best-guess is that when gravity finally has it's say the tree is going to twist towards our neighbours on the east side and take out their fence. Exciting stuff. There may be lawyers in my future.

Somehow I let somebody at work talk me into participating in a charity event.
Ugh. I'm really not the participating type.
