The exterminator showed up on Thursday. This was a last-minute appointment I was only able to get because it rained, so he had to cancel his planned outdoors work. It also required a frantic scramble to clear all the boxes off the floor and empty out the storage under the bed. Since it was also a work day I spent my afternoon with my laptop on a card table jammed between stacks on the first floor. The stuff he used is supposed to be non-toxic to any life form bigger than a bed-bug, but man does it stink.
Totally worth it. Haven't had a bite since.
The plan to take pictures for the work permit appeal got held up slightly by the fact that the back of the house had piles of bin bags and broken boards leaning up against it and blocking the way out. Contractor promised to be here on Sunday, and then on Monday, and then finally yesterday. His arrival caused some consternation with the roommate because apparently "The contractor will be coming..." got remembered, but the "... to carry all the trash out" did not. I tend to be unsympathetic to the need to emote when there is work that needs to be done Right Friggin' Now, but whatever. Cats were successfully sequestered upstairs, trash got moved, progress is happening. I'll spend the weekend sorting out the rest.
Then this morning I got up and looked out my back window and there was a big lumpy brown tabby in the backyard just kinda sitting there and looking around. Um. Turned out there was an unsecured window in the basement and she just pushed through the screen. Fortunately lumpy brown tabby is easily lured by a shaken treat bag.
The Old Man's release date approaches, and there are meetings and consultations and lot of phone calls with various specialists. I'll be there tomorrow for a meeting with the retirement home to confirm they can support his dietary restrictions and then I guess it could be any day after that? I went by his apartment last week and cleaned the old food out of his fridge so that's taken care of.
All balls still in the air, for now at least.
