3 – Sandwich Day: Do you like sandwiches? What's your favourite sandwich filling?
4 – Candy Day: Do you have a sweet tooth? What's your favourite candy?
3 - I do, and my favourites tend to be turkey or ham & cheese. 4 - I don't have a huge sweet tooth. If I do want something sweet I tend to go for pies or pastries over candy. I like chocolate, but I really like key lime, or pecan pie, or custard tarts.
5 – Zero Tasking Day: The extra hour we get when daylight savings times change is often heralded as an opportunity for extra productivity, activity and ‘doing’. However, given that we’re all already ‘owed’ an hour every other time it changes, it seems a little unfair to expect us to work through it – as such, Zero Tasking Day is designed to dedicate this hour to ‘me time’, encouraging rest, relaxation and a distinct lack of work. How will you spend (or did you spend if you changed your clocks before this weekend), your extra hour? If you live somewhere that doesn't observe daylight savings time, what would you do if you had an extra hour of 'me time'?
Well this time I spent it drunk writing, which I enjoyed the hell out of it
There are lot of things I would like to spend more time doing - writing, drawing, and practising my Spanish are the big ones. In all honesty though, it's not so much time that's my enemy as mental exhaustion. By the time I've run the gauntlet of work + daily chores + whatever was on my to-do list for that day I rarely have the energy left over to do anything but mindless scrolling before bed.

I'm wearing a toque and gloves and a hoody around the house for the last week because It Is Freezing. It's not even all that cold outside, I went for a walk yesterday and it was fine. Nice even. But because I'm sitting on my ass all day in front of the computer for work I'm not moving much and after a couple of hours I can't feel my toes.
I was thinking I really wanted a beer after dinner tonight, but I also didn't want to drink anything cold. So I looked up how to make a hot toddy. Why have I never done this before? This is delicious. AND WARM. As soon as I finish my second one I'm crawling into my bed under a big pile of blankets.
This probably means I will probably have to get up three times to pee, but no solution is ever perfect.

To the shock of exactly zero people, builder did not get the promised work done before his surgery date. He did come over last Thursday (his surgery was last Friday) and we went over what remained to be done, who was doing it, contact info, etc. He told me the cement work would be done by today. Which also didn't happen. But given their progress I think it's entirely possible it will be done by next Friday and then the week after I can get somebody in to clean the furnace and ducts and I CAN HAVE HEAT. There will still be work to be done in the basement, but it's all the heavy grit from the cement I'm most concerned about.
I also might need a new water heater, because that seems to be crapping out. Although it's also possible that it's just so cold in the basement the heater can't keep up. Guess I'll find out in a few weeks.
Basement window has been installed and the walls framed
Basement walkout floor has been poured with the drain installed. Next week they'll put in the stairs. Or at least that's the plan.
Kitchen walkout has been started
And new cement has been poured on the front porch and steps. I just opened the door and went... um. Fortunately there is also a basement door to the front we can use to get in and out. (Mental note: Do I have any idea where the keys are for that door?)
Builder is now saying mid-January for being completely done, heating vents installed, insulation & drywall and trim. I've already talked to my boss about taking the second half of January off for dealing with paint and cleaning and hauling furniture. Then the lawyer & banker pain parade starts.

Talked to my dad a couple of times on the phone. He seems fine while we're talking, but his wife reports he's not doing so well. I pick my sister up at the airport on Wednesday and she's going to be staying with them until she finds a job and an apartment, so she should have a somewhat better idea when she's been there for a bit.
And then the Christmas stuff is coming so I'm going to have to figure out how to navigate that among people who don't really seem to be taking any kind of precautions any more. Ugh.
