I am in day 2 of a 5-day training course.

I have come to the conclusion that my brain is not well-designed for focusing on a single subject for 8 hours in a row. I can feel myself going cross-eyed by lunch time.

I feel your pain. I just had a 5 day class as well for some software we use at our company.

I litterally wanted to die during the first two days of class (which were my first days of school in over 10 years). So I ended up working at my speed for the next 3 days, not listening to the teacher and just learning from the manual. That made it tolerable. :)

No ones brains is well designed to focus on a single subject for that long. Our course is 5 days long too and man..it's hellish. wish I could break it into smaller chunks, but no company wants to bring us on-site more than once..so we go at it for 5 days.

My brain is mush by the end and I'm *training* it.

As an instructional designer, I assure you that you aren't alone. The average adult can really *focus* on one topic for about 15 minutes before their mind starts to wander. A well designed course should have about 20-30 minutes of lecture and 15-20 minutes of interactive application in a given hour. With the rest (15 minutes or so) given over to a break. Sadly, though, practicalities don't usually allow for that schedule.
