you choose such a backward time
Dec. 6th, 2025 08:08 pmThere's a store on Queen Street that has a sign out front that says "Ice-cream fixes everything."
Yesterday I walked past a bistro on my way to the gf's place that said "Wine fixes everything".
I am prepared to review their respective arguments, especially if said arguments are made via wine and ice cream.

Note that I said "walked" in that story, because I am WALKING again, no cane required. My physiotherapist is fucking magic. I'm still on a bit of a leash so I don't overdo it, but the gf's condo is a 25 minute walk from my house and not only did I walk there, I walked home after and my foot felt fine this morning.
Plans to set the entire world on fire may be temporarily placed on hold as a result.

Got my boosters last week. Spent most of my spare time for the next three days sleeping. My immune system calmed down eventually but the first day at work was kinda rough.

My dad is doing much better and his wife decided he doesn't need the hospital bed since it's a rental. She was planning to buy him a regular bed, but since I still have the Old Man's old bed frame in my storage locker I offered that one. My sister has a pickup truck, so the two of us hauled it over and set it up.
We're both encouraging her to look into moving to a condo but she's not really receptive to the idea. Thing is, she's also running out of the ability to take care of the place, especially since she's doing it alone and taking care of my dad at the same time. She already hires people to deal with the yard.

Still waiting on engineer.

I finally got all the receipts uploaded for the energy grant. It took a while, because I don't really have receipts (in spite of asking for them) but I could show contracts and cancelled cheques. Couple of days later I got an email saying my application was incomplete, and I swear it took me a full day before I could get up the cope to look at it.
Turned out I was just missing the receipts from the company that did the before and after audits, so that took me five seconds to fix. Got an estimate, clicked on accept, got a popup that the cheque is in the mail.
Halle-fucking-lujah. It's not a ton of money, but it will help. And it's one more thing I can cross off the Tasks I Do Not Want list.
Got my bonus notification for work. Apparently the bank did ok because it's a nice one. Also will help.
I also tapped sis to help me out with her pickup whenever she has time so I can give up the storage unit and save that money from my monthly bills. So some time in the next month that stuff will get hauled to the house - there isn't much big stuff left so it shouldn't take long.

I went looking for a specific connector in the Big Box Of Cables and as soon as I took the lid off I could smell them. Several of them were put away still with dried cat puke on them. (NOT by me, I wish to confirm.) Box got emptied out onto the floor and washed. Sorted out all the cables, threw out a bunch that I no longer have the devices for, and scraped stank off the ones I kept.
This is one of the reasons everything takes forever, I keep finding new shit that needs to be dealt with.
(Ironically, the furry asshole himself spent the entire time screaming at the top of his lungs because he couldn't sit on my lap while I was doing it.)

Today was spent dismantling the wooden shelves that served as our interim food-prep surface while we were kitchen-less for... two years? Three? Let's say two and a half. Anyway, even since the kitchen has been usable I've been using them as a temporary place to put things I didn't know what to do with.
Anyway, most of that stuff has been sorted out so it was time for the shelves to go. And it was a nasty job. Food and grease had spilled down the back and of course dust and cat-hair was stuck to the crud. I scrubbed the shit out of it, but I think I'm going to have to repaint that wall.
Also cleaned out the freezer. I can now find things. We'll see how long that lasts.

I have the overwhelming desire to put together a playlist for my family's Xmas dinner. This desire was sparked by hearing Laibach's version of Jesus Christ Superstar on Twitch tonight.
C'mon, it would be hilarious.

I have the overwhelming desire to put together a playlist for my family's Xmas dinner.
I have three burnt CDs of Xmas tunes I made 25 years ago, so I may have some ideas if you need them. I know disc one starts off with Alien Sex Fiend's Stuff The Turkey.

Date: 2025-12-13 06:19 pm (UTC)Granted, you could then wait a long time for things to be broken again and see if the second one does just as well.
But then, you don't know how well ice cream or wine actually fix everything. What if it fixed everything so well that nothing ever broke? Your whole experiment would be out the window.
