Inspired by a conversation going on in a friends LJ.

If you were offered the opportunity to spend the rest of your life doing what you most want to do for a living - what would that be?

I don't think there is an answer to this.
15 years ago I would have said "this".
These days, I'm not sure.

Even travelling would get boring, or slothing around the house.

Editing. Production or copy, something really detail oriented like that. None of this fluffy DE stuff.

Cabaret. Producing and performing neo-vaudeville/burlesque shows. I wouldn't even have to make a living as long as I had some subsidy to help cover production costs.

I could totally throw parties like Convergence, as long as someone else was paying the bill. Event coordination agrees with me in that "be mostly organized, but not too organized, or you're fucked" kind of way.

Or I could fuck around with computers.

Or fuck around getting people in shape.

(those latter two are kind of why I'd like a seven- or eight-figure buyout of shrinkgeek, natch)

Also, wine import and tourism.

Being independently wealthy.

That sounds silly, but the problem with this question is that the things I most want to do with my life aren't what I want to do *for a living*. If I could work full time on music, I'd love to, but I specifically don't want to get paid to do music or rely on it to pay the bills. (And that's where the whole obsession in our society of getting your fulfillment from your job fails for me.) So I have a job that pays the bills and do what I love on the side.

But ideal world, I'd be wealthy enough that I could do what I love full-time and not need to get paid for it.

Writing. Which I already do, but with the ability to choose the topics I write about. I would also write for a greater variety of mediums and for different audiences.

photography, but with film and paper and all my old cameras...art photography, photography for the sake of art....

and garden

and when i'm bored of that i'd like to paint "until i get it right" 'cause technique and i (when it comes to picture painting) we are not buddies.

8 years ago I thought the answer to this was photography; 6 years later I have discovered that doing it for a living kind of ... messes with it. So now I want to do photoshop for a living so I can do photography for fun.

Help people at a grassroots level. To educate children and adults and to love the earth, to smile, to live and love life not things. I guess I'd teach something like english and other subjects abroad.

Hmmm. Given that Ramon would almost certainly answer this question with something along the lines of "Establish successful totalitarian dictatorship. Take over world.", I see some potential conflicts. ;)

I love being a student, and yet it frustrates me, at the same time. I'm pretty sure I am working towards my goal - clinical laboratory scientist. I want to do microbiology every day! :) I love it. I don't think I would want to instruct, though. I leave that in the hands of people that enjoy teaching, for I am not one of them. I do much better in one-on-one situations, and I tutor people from time to time.

A steward of our environment ~ helping to leave the world a better place by showing the water, air, land, and animals around us that humans don't have to only be a negative impact; that we can give as much as we take, along with exercising the power to leave some things alone in the interest of preserving them for a shared future.

Taking care of myself.

Seriously, taking care of myself is a full time job. If I could make a living doing that, I wouldn't have to worry about shit like how I'm going to pay off medical equipment my insurance wouldn't pay for. Then, I could benefit society by doing things I enjoy doing that happen to benefit society when I do them.

I like the independently wealthy option (so I can do what I like without worrying about how to pay the bills).

The 2 best jobs I had in my life were as house photographer for a concert promoter and a venue, and graphic designer for a huge nightclub. Both let me be creative and allowed me to meet some amazing people. I consider myself so lucky to have spent a portion of my working life doing these jobs!
