Axel & I had both booked trips in the middle of November. This meant we had to get the ground floor cleared out before we left, or the work on the ground floor would be delayed even more than it already is.
Fortunately we have good friends who are willing to pitch in and help out.
Step 1 was to empty the room of furniture. The bare essentials were dismantled and dragged upstairs. Everything else was dismantled and dragged into the basement for storage.
(Bare essentials translated: Computers and beer fridge. Also somewhere to sleep.)

Step 2 was to strip out the remaining plaster. You can see the sheer amount of dust this generated.

Just like upstairs, all the subfloor had to be replaced. If you look at the beams on top you can see the new joists put in place to reinforce and level the upstairs floor.
Also, check out that kitchen door. The support post is right where we thought the edge of the door was. Once we got the plaster off we discovered that the door had been narrowed on that side.

Looking towards the front of the house.

Insulation going in.

And this is what we found when Charlie took down the cement board on the left side of the doorway. Check out that brick on the right. Carefully observe where the brick isn't. Then look at the lintel.

Another shot of the bricks

A shot of the new lintel. I don't think the door is going anywhere now.

Drywall! Also our stairs to the top floor is now supported by something other than inertia.

More drywall!

And as of this this weekend. At the end of today there will be light fixtures in this picture.

We're starting to get a titch tired of living in each others' pockets upstairs. And end is so close we can taste it.
Next set of pics when it's done done done.
