Boredom is what makes you stare at the clock, pushing the hands forward with all your mental effort until you finally wake up and realize that your whole life is gone.
Having a sucky job... well, it sucks.
Having a boring job is soul-destroying.
I have a boring job. It's not my main job. (Which is only sucky.) The boring job doesn't pay all that well, but I can drop in whenever I have the time between all the other gazillion things I do, so it's a convenience. And more importantly, it's additional money to help get my ass out of debt and out of this house. So I try to make it in at least twice a week and set the money aside for important things.
Tonight was my first night back.
I doodle. I count things. I invent mathematical problems. I draw pictures on the back of my timecard. But mostly I count the seconds until I can get the hell out of there, and it's another night gone, another piece of my life consigned to the dustbin.
On the plus side -- it really stops me from wasting money. I pick up a magazine and think "Buying this is equivelent to one hour at That Place." and I put that magazine right back down again.
It also makes me start paying more attention to all the Get Cash Quick schemes I always have percolating in the back of my head.
Anybody know any art collectors? These will very soon be appearing in an ebay post near you.

That's why my day job frustrates me too. I sit there all day at my desk feeling like I'm wasting my time when I could be working on stuff like LD50. I can and have done "outside" work on business time, but I have to be very careful, because getting canned from my rent-paying job would suck large.
