May
11 – World Ego Awareness Day: Do you know anyone with an incredibly inflated ego? When was the last time someone's ego came into conflict with your own?
12 – Limerick Day: Do you like limericks? Do you have a favourite?
13 – World Fair Trade Day: Do you try to buy certified fair trade products?
14 – World Migratory Bird Day: World Migratory Bird Day is observed twice a year during the second Saturday in May and again on the second Saturday in October. The goal is to raise awareness of issues affecting migratory birds and to inspire action around the world to take measures for their conservation. Do you live in a region that sees bird migrations in the spring and fall? Light pollution is a major threat to migratory birds. Does your municipality have any "Dim the Lights" policies in place to protect migratory birds?
15 – Bring Flowers to Someone Day: When was the last time someone gave you flowers? When was the last time you brought flowers to someone else?
16 – Biographers' Day: Do you like reading biographies? What have been some of your favourites? If you're not a fan, why not? If you were going to write a biography of someone, who would that be?
17 – World Baking Day: Do you bake or are you more of a fan of watching others baking, for example, watching the Great British Bake Off or other shows of that type? If you do bake, what are some of your favourite things to bake?
18 – International Museum Day: When was the last time you visited a museum? Which one was it, and what was your favourite exhibit?
19 – World Meditation Day: Do you meditate? If yes, describe your usual practice. If not, is meditation something you'd consider trying?
20 – Weights And Measures Day: Imperial or Metric or a combo of the two depending on what you're weighing/measuring?

11. I've dealt with lots of people with big egos, but it's obviously not the worst fault a person can have because I can't even think of anybody off the top of my head. I suspect I would be able to think of somebody faster if it bugged me more. 12. I honestly don't have a strong opinion on them either way? They are dumb and occasionally amusing. 13. We used to buy fair trade coffee and local vegetables and all that good stuff back when there were two working people in the house, but I can't afford it on a solitary income. 14. Light pollution here is terrible and the fashion is to build all the new condos out of glass, because I guess it's cheaper. So I suspect we are probably pretty bad for killing birds. 15. Mostly I get seeds and cuttings rather than flowers because I want to grow things. 16. Occasionally. I think the last one I read was Kurt Vonnegut. 17. The only thing I really like to bake is bread. Some day if I ever own an oven again I will hit somebody up for some sourdough starter. 18. When we were in Switzerland I we visited several natural history museums because my daughter is really into fossils. 19. I used to do it a lot in the context of my religious practice, but it's not something I've kept up. 20. Both. I was in school right when we switched over so I still do weight in pounds but almost everything else is metric.

21 – International Tea Day: Do you like tea (proper tea, not those herbal infusions [tisanes])? What is your favourite type of tea and how to you take it (black, or with milk and/or sugar/honey, etc.)? Do you use an actual teapot to make your tea, or are you a "tea bag in a cup" person?

I am amused by the disdain towards herbal teas.

I do like tea but I rarely drink it these days. Most frequently I will make a pot and once it's brewed I put it in the fridge so I can drink it cold, because I love ice tea but the pre-made stuff is gaggingly over-sweetened.

I guess the contractor's truck is fixed because he showed up yesterday with a trailer full of gravel and heaped it three-feet deep on my tiny postage stamp of a front yard. Then today they came back with buckets and shovels and carried every last pebble into the basement. I'm kinda afraid to go look.

***

Bathroom score has gone up to 3, I managed to get another drain moving and I fixed the toilet.

I swear, old guys who do youtube channels on how to fix things are my absolute saviours.

I had to get a tooth pulled on the weekend. My mouth is too small and crowded and one had managed to work it's way loose and my dentist finally convinced me that if I didn't let her pull it I was going to inhale it in my sleep or something. I have a very high pain tolerance and I'm not normally squeamish but I haaaaaaaaaaaate anything to do with my teeth. To the point where she gives me Valium before she even starts looking at me because I'm sitting so rigid in the chair.

So that sucked. It didn't hurt at all, and it's already almost healed, but still. Ugh, ugh, ugh, why does it have to be my teeth.

Now next weekend, on the other hand, is my long overdue eye exam. That one will be a breeze. Then I think I'm caught up for a while.

Fixing the Old Man, fixing the house, fixing the meatsuit. In approximately that order.

You know how I'm always bitching about the local transit? This week it was so bad I walked back and forth to three different transit stops and each one had different and conflicting instructions on where to actually catch the bloody streetcar. It got to the point where I was just laughing because it was so ridiculous.

This fucking city.

Additional comedic moments were caused by stepping in another pothole, exactly the same way I did last summer when I busted a rib. I guess all those exercises I'm doing to improve my balance are helping because I managed not to fall this time. Just kinda... flailed down the sidewalk for a while.

I swear that if I'm going to have to start using a cane I'm holding out for a big-ass evil-wizard style walking stick. With spikes on it.

yay for fixing stuff. Much less yay to the tooth (though I'm glad it's healing well)

Wait, you don't carry a cane?
Can I encourage you to consider at least a fold-up one? Mine makes my life better in a wide variety of ways. For one thing, I can wave it at people in a "FUCK OFF" kind of way.

Ah mine adjusts with a little button on the side, because I am, as you know Bob, a midget.

Re limericks, I'm not really sure how I ultimately feel about this sequence of them (https://www.badlilies.uk/austin-allen-1), but it impresses on you that limericks can be something other than what they typically are.

When you want sourdough starter, get at me. I have a starter that dates back to 1847 and was carried on the Oregon Trail, and also a sweeter one wild-cultured from persimmons if that’s more your style. The 1847 one is damn near unkillable and has a very robust flavor. The persimmon one is more subtle and requires more care.

I need to know: did you look?

And what was the plumbing solution?

I swear, old guys who do youtube channels on how to fix things are my absolute saviours.

We have a hardware chain here (Bunnings), and it's gotten mega big over the last 20 years, but when you want advice, you still look for grey hairs. It's a bit culty, so the old timers are usually lifers, ex-tradies and know stuff.

his week it was so bad I walked back and forth to three different transit stops

As soon as you move... you have lost.

I swear that if I'm going to have to start using a cane I'm holding out for a big-ass evil-wizard style walking stick. With spikes on it.

I will pledge to your GoFundMe!

I think Hell on Wheels Design is on hiatus, BUT IIRC she had tutorials on how to make your own. It's epoxy resin on a regular device pretty sure.

Agreed on handypeople with YouTube channels. I'm about to saw open my bathroom wall because the drain to the sink runs into it and then out of it again. WTF, drain.
