My entrée turned out to be aquavit, not mezcal. And a second pass at 1am.

The only mixing that gives me trouble is wine & beer together. I can have liquor & wine OR liquor and beer and no issues.

don't know if there is a name for it, but frequently, at least between two heavy courses, one has a tiny bit of lemon sherbet as a "palate cleanser."
