I've been having a really hard time with focus today. I have a dozen email messages half written, a few words added to a website, a pile of open envelopes on my desk, a list of phone numbers undialed.

I can't concentrate to save my life.

I suspect this may have something to do with the fact that I'm meeting Jennifer (my daughter) for dinner tonight.

So, uh. Yeah.

I'm going to go for a run. I'm hoping that will level me out a bit.

I'll get back to business once I return.

I hope it goes well, and I expect that it will. You're both going to be there because you want to, and not because one of you pressured the other into agreeing to it. That takes care of a lot of the problems with reunions right there.

If by some chance it's not as great as you'd wish it to be, don't be too discouraged. It's bound to be awkward, obviously, because I'm sure you're both terrified - but these things often improve with time and increased familiarity.

I personally vote for 'hawk up too. It's part of who you are. And it's pretty damned cool. :) But go with whatever makes you feel more comfy...you're under enough pressure as it is...

As for the hawk issue - I dunno. I kind of think of the hawk up as "Siobhan's formal wear", and while this is a big deal, if you were another type of woman, would you be picking out a ballgown for this meeting? Or would you be so excited that you'd be more concerned with just making sure your shirt was buttoned correctly?

She'll see the hawk another time. Let her concentrate on the rest of you this first time. :)

your hair won't matter much, whatever makes you feel most comfy would probably be best. i just found your journal via jv's and the whole story is just amazing.

as an adoptee, i think both you and your daughter are very lucky to have found each other. I've always wondered why,how,whathappened? and even if the story behind me was less than picaresque, i'd really like to know it.

Dammit - I've been conditioned to want hourly updates. I caught myself listening to news radio for traffic reports, my attention wandering, and wondering when they were going to mention something about Siobhan's meeting with her daughter.
