Still alive over here. I am trying to get caught up with reading all your posts, which mostly leads to me opening tabs to respond and then... not responding. Sorry about that.

My to-do list is starting to approach manageable. I spent two solid weeks digging through household accounts and putting numbers into a spreadsheet and I can now say I know why forensic accountants make so much money. But it resulted in having some solid numbers to put in an offer letter so that is crossed off my list. Meeting with lawyer was yesterday, meeting with mortgage agent is tomorrow, and Things Are Finally Moving.

Meanwhile since I am no longer looking at spreadsheets all day I've pivoted into opening up boxes and trying to reorganize things. I think there will have to be a trip to the storage unit soon because there is a lot of stuff I just can't find. On the plus side one of the things I was able to do was move a bunch of plants into the (very sunny) kitchen so I was finally able clear out the space in front of my office window and trim and re-pot all my overgrown plants. I can see out that window now. And I'll be able to easily move things out of the way for installing the door to the deck when the construction finally gets to that point.

ALSO, remember during the winter I was complaining about the shower drain that was backing up and making it rain in the living room below? I finally managed to carve away the grout that was holding the cover in place and popped it open. AND did it without breaking any of the surrounding tiles, so go me. It was... yeah. So a lot goin' on in there. Smelly and gross and definitely needed fixing. Now works perfectly. That feels like an accomplishment.

Old Man is currently in a transitional ward, which is where they put elderly patients when they need to be assessed to figure out if they are able to go home or if they need to move into long term care. It's kind of an awful place physically, loud and crowded and with over-bright lights. You can always tell if a building is private health care because it's carpeted and colour-coordinated and smells nice. Public healthcare has equipment stored in the hallways and the paint is peeling and the staff wear scrubs with worn threads trailing off the cuffs. But every single person I have dealt with there so far has been great, very caring and attentive. And it means he's not using up a hospital spot so they won't hustle him out of there before he's actually ready.

New to-do list:

Next big thing, get the tree planted before the city comes around to inspect for it. Unfortunately that's in house-mate's name so that means I get to follow them around every day and bug them to do something about it. They are supposed to be here all for the next week so I guess that's what I'll be doing. On the plus side, I think that's the last thing in the house that's under their name.

After I visit Old Man on Friday I will swing by his apartment and pick up the motor for his bed since it's on my way home. I need to see if I can get it fixed. (I'm reluctant to just leave him without one even though he's not using it right now because I legit had to call around to about 20 places before I found a rental company that had one in stock.)

Once I have the conversation with the mortgage company I should probably talk to the housemate about dates. We'll need to go through the storage unit and figure out how we're splitting stuff up.

Contractor hasn't been around for over a month because his entire crew came down with covid. He texted to say he'd be back tomorrow.

So we are shortly entering month... 17? I think? Of my 4-month renovation project.

Ya gotta laugh, man.

I suspect it hits hard for me because with F working in construction now, his work buddy apparently has Grand Plans Drawn Up for our basement, kitchen, etc. and this is both 1) great and mildly exciting if we could just find a money tree, and 2) possibly a story that at some point involves me cooking in the garage, moving home to Indiana, hiring an exorcist, etc.

A significant part of me is just grateful that they didn’t show up to work despite having Covid. A lot of people seem to think that doing their regular routine with Covid is no more a big deal than going to work with a seasonal cold.

We've already done that because of the construction. Now it needs to get done before housemate moves out so I'm not asking for any more extensions.

Like where I am physically located in the world? Olympia Washington - about an hour south of Seattle and two hours north of Portland. Been here for about a decade now which is WEIRD, I do not know where all that time has gone. I went to Texas this month for the eclipse, that was also weird, but I got to hang out with...wait how do I do this, ah I see... ashbet which was really nice.
