I don't know whether, given the choice, I'd take your morning-starter or mine from the other day, but even having the choice would make for a pretty awful start.
It may be a weird thing to say, but on the few occasions we’ve had to deal with nests of maggots (usually in the bottom of an outdoor trashcan), we threw them out on the driveway. Watching a crowd of birds descend for the unexpected buffet was an entertaining end to an unpleasant task.
Admittedly I’m a lazy person, but if they’re mixed in with a bunch of compost, I’d leave them there to go into the compacter with the rest of the compost. 😂 But I’d also be leaving the green bin outside, because the last thing I want is flies all over my house if they hatch before the pickup day for green bins.
Some of them decided to go for a wander and got all over the counter-top. So I swept them back into the bag, tied it all off, and stuck it into the freezer. The bag will go out on pick-up day.
My city has organic waste pickup. In the summer time I have to swap out the bags more often and given how this week went I obviously missed the deadline.
