It took
the_axel almost an hour to drag me out of bed this morning.
Yesterday was the appointment for the phone hook-up at the new place, so at 7AM -- exactly seven hours after getting home from work -- I was walking out the door of the apartment. I grabbed a sandwich and a coffee from the Excellent Restaurant (no kidding, that's really what it's called) and sat on our new porch to have breakfast. The sun was coming up like a big bald head and the neighbours were leaving for work or puttering in their gardens or likewise sipping coffee and nodding at each other.
"Wow" I thought. "This is what people did before they had computers."
You know, I hadn't thought I got that much accomplished until I looked at that list. No wonder it felt like such a long day.
Today, get caught up on emails and phone calls (Ha!) -- then over to the house to try and clean and repair the downstairs bathroom.
I like my new house.

- Folded laundry and threw in a fresh load.
- Scrubbed out the refrigerator in the downstairs kitchen. Rejoice, for your beer is now safe from alien impregnation.
- Hung up the laundry. (No dryer yet.)
- Scrubbed out the room in the basement we will be using to store things we aren't using. It was less nicotine-flavoured than the bedroom -- but I don't know what the hell the guy was doing in that room. There was this really sticky greasy black gunk that had run down the walls where the bed was placed. It looked like he was pouring cola on the walls and letting it dry there.
- Started scrubbing the kitchen cupboards.
- Phone guy showed up and I had to help him haul his ladder through the kitchen window. Our wires are a dog's breakfast -- no real surprise there. I'll have to go back later with a phone and try to figure out what jacks are attached to what lines.
- Walked up to
bcholmes's work and borrowed her car. And ate really really hot Chineese food. Drove back to the apartment and threw a few small items in the car, then drove to Axel's work to pick him up. Got trapped between construction and Stupid People land -- some fucking twat knocked a girl off her bike, injuring her quite badly. And of course, causing traffic pile-ups for several miles.
- Met up with
len9 at the storage room and abused his good nature once again to fill up his pickup truck with a load of Stuff We Will Need soon. Dropped it off at the house.
- Drove to the hardware store and picked up a massive carload of supplies. (Dust masks! Hard hats!) Spent 20 minutes arguing about lightbulbs. I am not kidding.
- Finished scrubbing out the kitchen cupboards while
the_axel did a second cleaning of the nicotine room. Found lots and lots of mouse turds. (Mental note. Find traps. Buy breadbox.)
- Mopped out the floors of the two rooms One Last Time.
- Took a break and ate pizza on the porch, then packed up our stuff to walk home. Got tired and hissy at
the_axel until he laughed at me. Apologized for being a grouch until he laughed at me again.
You know, I hadn't thought I got that much accomplished until I looked at that list. No wonder it felt like such a long day.
