I wanted to make a London post last week, but there didn't seem to be anything I could say that hadn't been said better elsewhere.

I'm so relieved that everybody on my f-list is ok. Condolences to those who lost friends or family.

You know, I don't like London. At all. I have been known to rant at great length about how much it sucks.

But there must be something to that place after all, because damn, but you people have some sand.

--------------------------------

The local news media have stopped with the OMFGWTFBBQ LONDON! headlines, and we are back to our regular diet of OMFGWTFBBQ HOT! headlines. The news is full of pictures of homeless people being carted off in ambulances.

Heat brings smog and I've pretty much given up on being able to take a full breath again until some time in September. I permanently feel like I've inhaled a sweatsock.

--------------------------------

I suspect the heat is the reason our refrigerator decided to stop refrigerating. It's over 40 degrees in our kitchen. We currently have a fan blasting air over the coils which kinda sorta helps.

This happens on the same week that our kitchen faucet finally gave it up. As a result I've spent several days paddling through puddles of rusty water with tools and mops in my hands.

Lola, on the other hand, just loves this shit. I swear she's grown a foot in the last month.

--------------------------------

I am now three weeks behind on LJ and posts are falling off the 1000-page limit. I expect that I will never ever ever be caught up ever again.

Just so you know.

How can you hate London?

For my part, you haven't missed much.
I went away, came back, railed at injustice.

Is that 40C, or 40F?
If the former, don't ever visit me in summer.

They've had sand since before Winston was on the wireless. Back when he was just an MP in the House of Commons.
Gotha bombers
(http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWairwar.htm) and Zepplins (http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWzeppelinraids.htm) were bombing London back then.

Sand is right though. Good to see they still have it.

I think living in London as opposed to just visiting London is where the difference comes in. I know that it's got loads of humanity, can be dirty and loud, but there are so many amazing places to see that are where you least expect it that make it one of the best cities in the world.

I loved living there and still miss it (not the dirt or the tourists) and at times, miss it more than Chicago (where I spent almost 42 years of my life) which I also love dearly.

I also said little about the 7th, since all my friends there articulated exactly what I wanted to say better than I ever could say it.

What did you miss on my LJ? Didn't get the job I was hoping to get, good friends helped me (and changed my life in a way I never expected) and I missed seeing the mid-80's line-up of Anthrax last night due to lack of funds and distance. Other than that, I'm alive and still in love with my husband-what more could I say?

I found the people there incredibly callous.

It's also one of the most frustrating places I've ever been.

Depends, is it dry in Oz in the summer?

I've been places that are a lot hotter, but Toronto in the summer is like being in a swamp. Shade doesn't help, breeze doesn't help, and the air is so thick I can't breath.

London struck me as a great place to visit if one has money.

I found it incredibly frustrating. And the people very cold.

It probably doesn't help my impression of England that I've been violently ill both times I've visited. I liked Cheltenham, though.

Other than that, I'm alive and still in love with my husband-what more could I say?

Still in the black, then. :-)

i also think london sucks. as cities go, it's astoundingly *dull*. but i agree, the londoners themselves are excellent, and they've dealt with this in a really exemplary way.
