Came home from work last night. Sat down and couldn't get up again. The low lights in our house felt so bright I was getting a headache, and [livejournal.com profile] the_axel assertained that I had a fever, so I went to bed early and slept for the next 16 hours straights. I am now shakey and spacey.

Trouble is I did this on the only night New Model Army was in town. I could have cried.

I tried to do school work, but I am apparently incapable of concentrating on anything that requires actual thought. So instead I counted all the booze in our liquor cabinet. We were planning on doing that anyway so we could see what we have to make frouffy drinks at the summer bbq. Since I can't seem to do anything more challenging anyway at the moment, it seemed like a good time.

Dry vermouth: 4 oz
Clear Creme de Menthe: 2 oz
Green Creme de Menth: 1¼ bottles
Clear Creme de Cocao: 1¾ bottles
Canadian Club rye whiskey: 4 oz
Jameson Irish whiskey: most of a bottle
Dewar's Scotch whiskey: ½ bottle
Havana Cuban dark rum: 1½ bottles
Masson brandy: most of a mickey
Bombay Sapphire gin: 3½ bottles, plus an unopened mickey. This is after I emptied the additional two partial bottles together.
Something called Versinthe, which appears to be some kind of anise-flavoured liqueur. Unopened.
Something called Bokbor, which appeas to be Belgian, is unopened, and claims to be good before 2002.
Bcuanero amber rum, brought back from Cuba by my sister. Unopened.
Bacardi coconut rum, brought back from Puerto Rico. Unopened.
Ron del Barrilito aged amber rum, brought back from Puerto Rico. Unopened.
Segura Viudas sparkling wine. Appears to be from Spain. Unopened.
Panama Jack's cream liqueur. We put that in our coffee on weekends, so that won't last long.
Jack Daniels corn mash whiskey: 4 oz
Amaretto: most of a bottle
Reserva Antigua golden tequila: most of a bottle
Jagermeister: 1¼ bottle
St-Remy's Napoleon Brandy: 1¾ bottles plus ½ a mickey
Crown Royal rye whiskey: Two partial bottles that would probably make one full one if I stuck 'em together, but my
funnel has gin in it.
Cafe Royal coffee liqueur: ¾ bottle
Ouzo: ¾ bottle
Smirnoff Lemon vodka: 4 oz
Peppermint schnapps: ¼ bottle
Martini & Rossi sparkling wine: Unopened
Cockburn's Port: ¼ bottle
Harvey's Bristol Cream: 4 oz
Bright's Canadian Dry Sherry (We make sherry?)Really dusty: ¼ bottle
Absolut Citron vodka: ¾ bottle
Noval Port. Reeeally dusty: ¾ bottle
Stolichnaya vodka, which I promptly chucked into the freezer: ¼ bottle
Remy Martin Cognac: Unopened mickey

Dry Reisling in a bottle shaped like a cat: Unopened
Johnny Walker Black Label Scotch: ½ bottle
Johnny Walker Red Label Scotch: 2 bottles that are half full. The labels are entirely different, which makes me think that they either came from different countries or were bought several years apart.
7 of those little hotel-room sized bottles: 3 Keglevich flavoured vodkas in peach, lemon and pineapple, one courvoisier cognac, 1 dry vermouth, 1 Smirnoff green apple, and 1 Sauza silver tequila.

Also two bottles with no labels. One is a mickey that has a distinct red tint and a stick of something that might be cinnamon in it. The other is huge and has a cork in it, so it might be wine.

Plus:
Lime codial: most of an extremely dusty bottle.
Ribena: Unopened

First thought: We will have lots of rum for the party

Second thought: Look at all that gin! I obviously live with an Englishman

Third thought: One might think we had poncy friends what with all the brandy and cognac, but I suspect it's just the opposite. That's the stuff that gets left behind.

Forth thought: Secondary theme for the party. "Taste this. Do you think it's still good?"

Now I'm tired again. I'm going to make myself a big cup of ginger tea, and then I'm going back to bed.

Hey, you have three poncy friends here who would drink your St-Remy if we came to visit. (Well, actually four, but since one is underage I won't mention her.)

And I think we have an opened bottle of Ribena at our house, so I'm not sure what that says about us. Middle aged?

Dunno what else we have, since I have to climb on a chair. But we got 2 bottles last night as late Christmas presents. Single-malt Bushmills Irish, and some brandy.

You know, we've talked about having an open house when the place isn't under construction any more. Trouble is, who knows when that's going to happen.

Around here Ribena gets used to make snakebite-and-black, so I figure that's why we have it. In fact, I don't know what it's otherwise used for.

IIRC, the Versinthe thing is a neutered absinthe-esque thing. No wormwood, but tastes vile enough it might as well have it.

And yes, Johnny Walker has changed labels a couple of times. If one's a candy-apple red and one a darker brownish red, that's probably overlapping the most recent change, and the brighter label is the current one. (Some claim the older stuff is better. I never found a real difference.)

We also have a stupid amount of booze at our place.

M just bought two new bottles of gin last week, to go with the bottle in the freezer. One is Tanqueray 10, the other is a Scottish gin with cucumber and rose petal flavours. It smells divine.

In other alcohol-related news, we get to make wine with you on Friday. More booze!

you guys should do an inventory as well. We'll turn the lists over to the Tiki Drinks Master Extrodinaire that is Len, assign the missing items to visiting Americans and put the results into coconut shells with little umbrellas.

No, booze was never a requirement.

A lot of pubs stopped serving it because it served the same role as wine coolers or alcopops in British pubs in the '80's - didn't taste of beer so kids with no alcohol tolerance could drink lots quickly (or indeed slam them) and get really fucked up & stupid really quickly.

The biggest problem for the landlords was the vomit & dropped beer glasses rather than any malicious damage.

(I speak from experience here, in case you hadn't guessed)...
