That seems like basic advice even for dealing with people without PTSD, and whether that dark loud place is a nightclub or a subway train on which the lights have gone out.
It would have taken a great deal of restraint for me to avoid taking their kneecap out -- I only let people I know and trust and specifically invite touch my head, I can't imagine them having the idiocy to do so unexpectedly in the dark.
This was a known and trusted friend who was very drunk and very affectionate. And was repeatedly unable to comprehend why being pinned might not be the best way to experience affection for somebody who already gets jumpy when she can't see the exits.
