the bad old days
Nov. 25th, 2008 09:15 pmAxel introduced me to The Young Ones last week. I started off thinking it was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen. By the end of the DVD, I still thought it was the dumbest thing I've ever seen but I was still laughing my ass off at it. I think it's one of those things where you had to be there. "There" being communal living in the 80's.
Several days later we were talking about something completely different and it occurred to me that I used to know one or two people who were just like Vyvyan.
Come to think of it, I also knew a couple of people who were just like Neil.
...
Well, that's disturbing. Maybe that's the reason why 80's nostalgia is one of those things that I just don't get.

Rik: "Then I'll write to Echo and the Bunnymen. Dear Mr. Echo..."
Plus Dave Vanian's hair in the Nasty episode! Oh, I could go on and on. MTV showed the series a few years after it had aired in England and I bought the DVD when it came out.
