And by "it" I mean my basement.

Wow. That's a lot of water.

I may have once in my life been foolish enough to say I wanted to spend more time with nature, but that didn't mean by inviting it into my house.

Well, you *did* say your place was turning into Discovery channel territory. Now you can have salmon swimming up your stairs to spawn.

I have been suspicious for some time that your house was possessed by some malignent entity; now I'm conviced.

Where the hell is the water coming from? Outside, or plumbing?

Outside. We've had thunderstorms here for three days running, and I think the gutters just gave up.

You too? Our basement flooded last night and again this morning. We filled our 14 gallon shopvac 5-6 times between yesterday and today. Any damage?

Only behind the walls where we can't get at it. :-p

We have a drain by the washing machine so the water is leaving - I just have to ford a river to get to the bathroom. And it's coming out from underneath the bedroom so I'll need a dehumidifier in there for a couple of days before I can even think about sleeping there again.

Heh. Us too. We're going to call the insurance company tomorrow to see if they cover the cost of repairs.

Right with you on that. I've decided that I need a dedicated broom for sweeping the water into the drain by the washer, and I've been emptying the dehumidifier about eleventy billion times a day.

We solved that problem by running a hose from the dehumidifier's tank to a drain. It just runs constantly, all by itself.

Thank god everything stored on the floor is in plastic tubs...

It's a good solution, and one I used in my old house. Unfortunately, here, there are no good outlets anywhere near where the dehumidifier would need to go for us not to be using a very long hose.

Uhoh, here it comes again. :/ Now we know why we found albino plant life growing inside the wall of the basement stairs . . . The basement itself, thankfully, is dry.

Sorry to hear about the basement, that's never fun, especially when your bedroom is in it. :(

How's the new chinking/tipping on the top floor walls holding out?

yeah, just before I left for Toronto on Friday, I discovered that my basement was trying to be a swimming pool.

thankfully I have a small pump and hooked that up, then the dehumidifiers. It was one of the reasons I delayed departure until morning (the pump is on or off, it doesn't have a water depth sensor)

I wasn't sure how much water I was going to come home to, but it was in the bearable range. both dehumidifiers were full though.

That sounds exhausting. *sends over a pump*

You could invest in a paddle-boat for the basement.
That could be fun ;)
