They made me lie on a table for my biopsy. The mole is on my forearm so that didn't make a lot of sense to me, but whatevs. Far be it from me etc.

So I dozed off.

While the doctor was cutting a chunk out of my arm.

Think maybe I'm not getting enough sleep?

I would guess that that sort of thing is exactly why they had you lie down. Not falling asleep exactly, but it seems like a biopsy is the sort of thing people might faint during.

I hope you get good results! And more sleep.

You know, that makes a lot of sense. Would you believe it wouldn't even occur to me to faint?

The biopsy turned out to be a precautionary measure - if they thought it was a real risk they would have lopped the entire thing off.

And yeah - more sleep might be a good idea.

Sounds good to me. I don't actually fall asleep in a dentist's chair, but it's a chance to rest where no-one can bug me. "Ahhh, a lovely relaxing root canal."

Over here they tend to lop the whole thing off & then biopsy just to be sure; saves having to go in again if there's a problem.

OWE is a strong word. I think a more accurate statement would be that Darrell WANTS me to make him a trifle. Then again, I suppose that is what I get for posting to fb about the gingerbread, lemon curd trifle with blackberry sauce that I made for Christmas.

I was offered that option, but the mole is big enough it would have required a couple of stitches and he wouldn't do that on the spot. So I opted for the one less doctor visit route.

I had one cut out about 15 years ago (it had started to hurt, so I went to the doctor and they just said: "You know what? *gouge*" and a chunk of my arm was gone and I had a few stitches (my first ever). I forget how many. It bloody ached for days.

Maybe I just got a slice-happy doctor? I'd always assumed it was a fairly routine, done-on-the-fly procedure. Guess not.

My impression is that is pretty routine to just pull them out if there is any doubt.For whatever reason the dermatologist I saw today doesn't himself do excisions large enough to require stitches but was quite happy to send me to somebody who would if that made me more comfortable. I didn't ask why.

(Possible guesses, not his area of expertise, has given up doing any potentially delicate surgery due to reduced visual acuity and hand-eye coordination as a result of age, or just the fact that his office is in the middle of moving and is stacked full of very dusty boxes.)
