I thought this only happened in sitcoms

I lost my MetroPass today.

Well OK, I didn't actually lose it, per se. I know exactly where it is. At the bottom of elevator shaft number 9 in the east tower of the office building where I work.

I swear, I never have aim like that after I have my daily coffee.

I guess security have no way of getting it back?

I gave them my name. If the guys who do maintenance and repair on the elevators come in, security will ask them to retrieve it for me. But security themselves don't have access.

I totally did that earlier this year with my work keycard. Security recovered it for me by the end of the day, but I remember dropping it and having the world go into that slow motion 'oh shit' mode as I saw it drop, saw the trajectory and realized, yes, that is indeed going for the crack in the elevator between the car and the shaft.

Yeah, I had one of those slow-motion trying to grab it and yelling "shiiiiiiiiiiiit" scenes like you normally only see in movies.
