My desk is located next to a back window, and there is a tree about five feet away from where I sit to use my computer. Every night for the past three weeks I have heard an animal scrabbling up that tree. Occasionally I hear squalling and yelping as some interloper gets told off. I've lived in this city long enough to know what racoons sound like when they're pissed.

So this weekend I was sitting here and I spotted a mother raccoon and three or four little fuzzy not-quite-babies clambering up and down that tree. I called out to Axel and two of them sat up and stared at the window, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from.

Cutest. Thing. Ever.

It's all fun and games until they.... whatever it is raccoons do.

Get into your trash? Get into the roof and rut wildly in the dead of night? Give you rabies? Kidnap small children?

I have never seen a raccoon in the flesh.
