Zombie Space Unicorn: Chapter Four
Nov. 4th, 2012 01:05 amTwo more beers than the last time I said I had lost count of the beers.
Down side with doing tis at the pub is that they cut you off after 2 o'clock. Must type faster.
"Dorian!" Franklin scrambled up into a sitting position from the floor. "Where are you? Are you down in the hole? Are you hurt? Do you need help?"
"I'm fine," said Dorian. "I'm inside the ship." His voice had an odd sibilant quality. I had no idea why but it made my skin crawl.
"We're all in the ship," said one of the women. "Where are you? How do we get to you?" I searched through my head for her name. Rachel. She lived just down the street with her wife. I scanned the group but didn't see her partner among us.
"No, no, I'm inside the ship," said Dorian. His voice was high and excited and I swore I felt a tremor run through the floor. "Listen to me carefully, I need to explain fast."
"When we... when you... when humans eat food we think that makes it on the inside. But it's not. Humans are hollow, you're a tube, the things you swallow just go into the tube and some of it goes inside but most of it stays outside. You're outside. But I'm inside.
"Dorian, you were right here a second ago," I said.
"Oh, that doesn't matter," said the voice. "That was ages ago. Anyway, I can help you now. I can talk to the ship. I can ask it to take you home."
"This is just too fucking weird," said Joe. "how do we know this is even Dorian?"
"Who else would it be?" asked the voice, sounding genuinely puzzled. I laughed. I coulnd't help it. The whole thing was so surreal as to be rediculous.
"What about Marie," asked Franklin. "Is she part of the ship too?"
"Oh no, she's on the outside too. She's just in a different part. Hang on, I'll get her for you."
I heard a sound and looked around. An opening appeared in one of the walls and Marie ran through the hole and out to the centre of the room. She saw us sitting on the floor and she stopped in her tracks. She did a quick scan of the group then closed her eyes and let out a wail. "MOMMEEEE!" Franklin jumped to her feet and ran towards the child, dropping to her knees and whispering words of comfort and reassurance. The opening in the wall trembled and then shrank, sealing adn disappearing so the surface was as smooth and grey as before.
I stared at Franklin and Marie, the stared at the wall behind them, smooth and featureless. I looked around at the other people around me. Everybody had the same incredulous expression on their face.
"This is fucked up," I said.
"I'm going to ask the ship to take you home," said the voice. "It might take a while, and I won't be able to talk to you because the ship is too big. But I'll get you there." He sounded excited.
"Dorian," I said, but somehow I could tell that he was no longer there. the air in the room was felt empty except for the soft murmur of Franklin comforting the little girl.
"Well that was weird," said Joe.
