zombie town
May. 23rd, 2013 12:17 pmOne of the things I did last weekend was go and see a theatre "tribute" to Night of The Living Dead. I say tribute because although the first act was true to the movie, the second act was a series of "what if" scenarios that got increasingly more ridiculous. What if they had hidden in the cellar like Harry wanted them to, what if the women had taken charge, if a John Wayne character had been there, if they had tried to imitate the zombies[1], if they had tried to train the zombies, etc. The actors wore makeup that made them look like they had been filmed in black-and-white, and a section of the audience overlooking the stage were recruited to stand up and make zombie noises whenever the ARRGGHHH prompt sign flashed. It was hilariously cheese-tastic and fun.
Then we went to the pub and had many pints.
The man who played Harry (the man who wants them to hide in the cellar in the movie) turned out to be the same actor who played the role of Jake in Evil Dead: The Musical. He looks completely different but I recognized his voice when he started talking to the audience at the end of the show. He's also part of the Chuck and Vince recycling team appearing on bus shelters all over Toronto. I think this is hilarious mostly because he has become the most instantly recognizable actor in the city for me.
[1]I kept picturing scenes from Shawn of the Dead and humming L7 for that segment.
