I am staying up solely to finish this, and I have no idea if it even makes sense.

Axel apparently has over 2 hours of House of Love.

Pretty sure that tomrrow I am going to regret all of my life choices.

Zag is sleeping on my couch these days. Apparently bars aren't seeing the kind fo revenue they used to so he's having trouble finding work. He's not used to being broke and it's makign him kind of cranky and I really wan't in the mood to deal with it so I let him sleep as I let myself out.

I walked to work that day. My shitty landlord raised the rent again and as much as I have searched I can't find anything cheaper within the city limits.

Lajos and Ahmed were nowhere to be found when I entered the building. That was pretty much normal these days. They building management had finally moved in a third desk and Steven was already in place, sorting through the stacks of envelopes. I dropped my bag on one of the side tables and dragged a chair up across from him.

"Hey guy. How was your weekend?"

"Pretty good actually. We got a new place, just moved in."

"Cool. You say we, you have family? You don't have to answer that."

"No, it's ok." Over the course of the weeks that Steve had worked fro the bank he had grown a lot more relaxed. Today he was postively radiating chill. "Zombies live in groups. It's just what we do. The undead liek me have jobs. Teh full dead - people who reanimated from graveyards - they can't work. So we take care of them. Not all of them have gotten past the cravings stage, you know?"

"Oh! That's really cool. So you do have a family."

"Well, it's more like a community..."

Ahmed interrupted us by entering the room with his cart of outgoing mail. He glowered at us and pushed the cart next to hsi desk.

"You want a heand with that?" Steve called out. Ahmed ignored him.

We finished the inboudn mail by lunch time. Ahmed disappeared to go get his lunch. I had no money to buy anything so I fished a sandwhich out of my knapsack. Steve produced a mason jar full of a thick pink slurry. I stared at it. "Is that..."

"Raw meat. Blendered. All neural tissue removed." He gave me a smug smile and unscrewed the cap.

"From... cows?" I asked.

Steve raised an eyebrow. "Of course."

Ahmed walked into the room. He glared at us.

"You should take your lunch," he said to us.

"I have my lunch right here," said Steve. He hoisted the mason jar full of pink goo without looking up from the piles of mail he was sorting on his desk.

"No, you shoudl take your lunch," Ahmed hissed. "If your work through they'll expect everybody will do it.

"Where's Lajos today," I asked. I guess I figured I could distract him. "Is he sick today?"

Ahmed transfered his glare from Steve to me. "Lajos doesn't work here any more."

"Wait. What?"

"You are such a child," Ahmed spit at me. He spun on his heel and walked back to his desk.

I looked back at Steve. He was smiling atg me.

There was knock on the door and Wendyh walked in. Wendy was the rep from a temp agency I worked for and I usually saw jher about once a year when there was a problem with my paychque. I knew as soon as she walked through teh door what she was here for. I stood up

"I'm sorry," Wendy started, but I ignored her. I turned to face Steve where he sat grining at me.

"It won't last," I said. "You're the golden boy now because you don't need to eat and sleep, but at some point they'll figure out that you are supporting people living with you who aren't productive and they'll force them out too."

"I need your card honey," said Wendy from behind me.

I gave her my passkey. I was fucked fopr rent without ths job anyway, so I figured I might as well splurge on teh bus fare home. I climbed up the stairs of the bus and the zombie driver smiled at me from his seat.

"I guess you don't need bathrrom breaks," I said to him and he smirked at me.

I walked to the back of the bus. It may have been because it was the middle of the day, but there were plenty of seats. I looked around and realized that I was the only lving person on the bus.

That was ok. I settled into my seat for the ride home. There would be a rough couple of uyears. But eventually everybody would figure it out. Even the undead would get it eventually.

We are all just meat to the machine.
