I am incredibly prone to earworms. I get them very easily and a bad one can last for weeks if not months. I sometimes wonder if it's related to the tendency towards intrusive thoughts; if the wheels for "step in front of the train, step in front of the train, step in front of the train" just happen to fit in the exact same grooves as "a three hour tour, a three hour tour, a three hour tour".

Last week Michael Pagliaro played at the CNE and thanks to hot weather and the resultant open windows I got one of his songs stuck in my head for a week. This week it was Trooper, no thanks to the co-worker who keeps a radio playing on her desk tuned to some awful baby-boomer station. It's been 70's CanCon all month in here.

(You know Astrid, I keep thinking about the bar manager you told me about who thought all Canadian music sucks. I was aghast when I first heard that, but if she went to high school at the same time I did, she might actually have a point.)

I desperately need to go listen to music with chainsaws in it. Or wash my brain out with bleach. Something.

Oh fuck. I think if Trooper played in hearing distance, my intrusive thoughts would be less "step in front of the train" and more "grab the chainsaw and spare the neighbourhood this torture."

Lately my brain has sometimes been trying multiple earworms *at the same time*, so then they mashup in my head and sometimes it works and sometimes it really doesn't. I'm also really prone to casually filking things. Like I sing to the cats a lot - 'all the sleepy kitties (if you like it then you should have put a paw on it)', 'kitties in the bathtub, please mew free', etc. Last night I was chatting with my friend about our upcoming Jasper/Banff/Glacier trip, and then I had 'Hungry Eyes' stuck in there, except with 'Hungry Bears'.

GODDAMMIT! Now the three hour tour is going in my head.. I've almost always got an earworm going- it's like my own private musak. And that song is one of the most insidious ear worms ever.

Do you have OCD? Both the ear worms and the intrusive thoughts can be aspects of that. I've got them (along with a host of other good things like washing my hands too much)

I suggest Ace of Spades on repeat to clear out earworms.

I am incredibly prone to earworms too

I've been reading Starship Troopers.
I have that sing in my head.
I have DEEPER thoughts, but I'd have to go into my Twitter scream for this weekend.

I keep thinking about the bar manager you told me about who thought all Canadian music sucks. I was aghast when I first heard that, but if she went to high school at the same time I did, she might actually have a point.

Look, you're a little older than me, but I think we can agree that ain't right.

I'm lazy, and can't just now, but if you YouTube, Midnight Oil recently covered London Calling.

It agrees with one of us in song.

I attribute this to OCD/autism spectrum scripting, too. Then again, I spent ages 3 - 7 completely immersed in the autism scripting of others, so no idea if it's nature or nurture. However, relate! My favorite is when I get a good mash up going like Born to Love Volcanos and Psalm 98:4.
