The majority of the people who responded to my informal poll prefer third person to first. I also prefer third person. Only this bloody story refused to be written in third person, and now it's violently resisting my attempts to convert it.

I give up. It obviously has a mind of it's own.

I theorize that Skunk wants to use her own words the better to try and convince people she has complete control over the situation. (Spoiler. She does not have complete control over the situation.)

I actually went to a club on the weekend for the first time in - well, years. It was fun. Good music, good crowd. Shit alcohol for way too much money. I knew barely anybody there which kind of drove home just how long it's been.

I have had this earworm for over a week. To the point where it has actually started showing as background music in my dreams.

If the story demands first person, by all means write it that way! Reader preference doesn't trump all, and as several folks said, first person can be done well, and can make a more striking story for it.
