[personal profile] misbegotten gave me the letter D.

THE DEMICS!

The band that got me into punk music, way back in the 70s. There was a meme going around ages ago where you were asked to pick the one song that would be your theme song, and this is the one I named.

If anybody wants to play,

* Name a BAND (not a song, not a solo performer) that starts with the letter "D". No googling!
* I'll then give you a letter for you to repost.

The Demics? In a pandemic? On the nose!

I can't say I have ever heard of them.

D is for the Damned.
Probably the first punk band I actually listened to. I think. High school was a bit of a blur. Could have been Buzzcocks.

It may surprise you, 48 hours on and Fields of the Nephilim just popped into my head. They were not the first band I thought of.

D is for...

I don't want a letter, I just wanted to say it.

Oh, fine, I'll take a letter.

So I was thinking, that's the second song I've ever heard by the Demics, then, and then I thought, no wait, there's also that "New York City" song, and then I thought, what exactly is the name of that "Waking Up Tired" song anyway and started looking it up and that's how my brain put the Demics and the Diodes in the same room at the same time. Which I have a feeling it does once every ten years or so, and then forgets again. (Both of those were Special Unicorn Mystery Songs I'd hear on CFNY back in, well, the day after the day, and never quite caught what they were or where they came from--until the internet cleared the forest and the mysteries were revealed. (Others included the "Hey Matthew when you're watching TV" song, for obvious reasons, and the "In Saigon he was nineteen, nineteen, nine-nine-nine-nineteen" song, and the "Toast. A little bit of toast." song, and the "All dead! But still alive! In endless time! In endless art!" song.))
