I finally got my test results almost two weeks later. The Ontario website was never updated, so on Tuesday I walked over to the testing centre again. There was a long lineup but the man working security was beyond helpful - he got the email address of the centre testing centre and a piece of paper with my file number and "negative" scribbled on it from one of the staff. The email address yielded a form that I filled out and sent back and in the end I got a pdf of my results that I was then able to present at the residence.

So then because nothing can ever be simple, the residence announced that nobody was going to be allowed in the building because they had a staff member go into quarantine. (They don't think he has Covid, but they're being careful.) But I was still able to sit with the man for a half hour in an area that was cordoned off in the parking lot, with both of us wearing masks.

This is enough of an ordeal that I don't think I'm going to be visiting frequently, but at least I can do it once in a while. And really I'm glad they're being cautious.

When lockdown first started I would go for walks and see maybe a half dozen people in an hour and we would all weave around each other, leaving lots of space and crossing the streets to avoid contact. Now the streets are crowded and very few people seem to be making any effort to not get all up in each other's faces. So I've gone from having a bandana that I would only pull over my nose when I was in a building to buying masks that I wear all the time when I leave the house.

Somebody on my feed reported that masks are going to be mandatory in public spaces in the city starting next week, so at least that's something. Months overdue, but something.

I've been watching Deep Space 9 with Axel - I never watched it when it first came out for some reason. One of the very earliest episodes was about an epidemic on the station and that was an interesting thing to view now. I managed not to yell at the screen whenever people made bad decisions, so you all should be very proud of me.

I actually started watching it because I recently started playing an RPG on Discord with a group of people and it's set in the Star Trek universe after the Dominion war and I knew nothing about the background. I am amused by the fact that the game contains inadvertent spoilers for the show, because of course everybody else has seen it already.

I've also been watching The Morning Show with BC and boy, that's been an experience. Especially given that there have been some recent revelations about an ex being a serial abuser.

It's hard to talk about. All my brain can seem to do is yell at me that I should have known better. NOT HELPFUL BRAIN, NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.

not knowing isn't your fault. i bet that person spent a lot of time and effort not showing you that part of themselves, or else making sure you never knew you weren't the only one.

When I'm out in my neighbourhood, I find that other people wearing masks will still make efforts to create more space when walking past you. It's the people NOT wearing masks who also make no effort to do so, selfish gits. Like the couple yesterday who were not wearing masks, and were walking side by side, and didn't even have the decency to go single file as they approached me.

I've often been getting the feeling that entitled old white unmasked men are in heaven right now with not having to give way because I'm going way out of my way to keep 15+ feet away from them. *grump*

DS9 is the best Trek of all. Hang on to your hats.

(Ignore "Move Along Home." Everyone involved in writing that episode has died of shame.)

"Random internet commenter?"

I know it's just a commonly used sobriquet by long-timers, but I've been Sio's friend online and in meat-space for, literally, decades. Since Usenet.

I sentence you to watch "Move Along Home" once a day for the next month.

It was just a sobriquet, picked from the aether on a Friday evening.
No offence was intended.

Although, I am pretty sure the rules of the internet now require a series of escalating actions, starting with cutting memes, and ending in doxxing and/or swatting.

We've had to walk later in the evening bc our supposedly 'low density''car-dependent' area is TEEMING with people. Car-dependent and low density no longer. There are two to four generations in most of these houses. It helps that everything is in fact walkable. A lot of people here have given up on sidewalk distancing, too.

If you like war stories, you'll love Deep Space Nine. It got too much for me in the final seasons but I did enjoy it. Jadzia and Sisko are two of my all time favorite ST characters period.

Sorry about the ex, that's hard.

I don't think of DS9 as "war stories." I think of it as an exploration of the long-term effects of war and colonization, and the "oppressed oppressor" among other things.

I think when I originally watched it in its first run I thought so too but I know the war aspect stopped me watching the last season. I remember being disappointed so much of it was dedicated to that but I know a lot of fans loved that aspect of it.

Not knowing isn't in any way your fault.

DS9 is about the only Star Trek that I've never got around to watching.

Remedy your DS9 gap *immediately*. If you are discouraged by abjectly terrible episodes early on (see also Buffy, etc.), this guide to skippable episodes is both helpful and insightful. https://www.reddit.com/r/DaystromInstitute/wiki/algernonguide_ds9

I've been watching Deep Space 9 with Axel - I never watched it when it first came out for some reason.

Oddly, I am re-watching it for the first time.
Just hit S4.
Sio, it is so fucking good.
(and not just if you like Klingons)

I managed not to yell at the screen whenever people made bad decisions, so you all should be very proud of me.

At the time we hadn't had the Internet long, Spanish Flu was 80 years prior, and swine flu, SARS and MERS were unknown.

I watched The Visitor today and, I *almost* teared up.

I've also been watching The Morning Show with BC and boy, that's been an experience. Especially given that there have been some recent revelations about an ex being a serial abuser.

There's a lot to unpack there, none useful. And nothing I can say is.
But in Australia it was called Morning Wars.
