crystal ball ain't so crystal clear
Jun. 30th, 2020 04:23 pmI finally got my test results almost two weeks later. The Ontario website was never updated, so on Tuesday I walked over to the testing centre again. There was a long lineup but the man working security was beyond helpful - he got the email address of the centre testing centre and a piece of paper with my file number and "negative" scribbled on it from one of the staff. The email address yielded a form that I filled out and sent back and in the end I got a pdf of my results that I was then able to present at the residence.
So then because nothing can ever be simple, the residence announced that nobody was going to be allowed in the building because they had a staff member go into quarantine. (They don't think he has Covid, but they're being careful.) But I was still able to sit with the man for a half hour in an area that was cordoned off in the parking lot, with both of us wearing masks.
This is enough of an ordeal that I don't think I'm going to be visiting frequently, but at least I can do it once in a while. And really I'm glad they're being cautious.
When lockdown first started I would go for walks and see maybe a half dozen people in an hour and we would all weave around each other, leaving lots of space and crossing the streets to avoid contact. Now the streets are crowded and very few people seem to be making any effort to not get all up in each other's faces. So I've gone from having a bandana that I would only pull over my nose when I was in a building to buying masks that I wear all the time when I leave the house.
Somebody on my feed reported that masks are going to be mandatory in public spaces in the city starting next week, so at least that's something. Months overdue, but something.
I've been watching Deep Space 9 with Axel - I never watched it when it first came out for some reason. One of the very earliest episodes was about an epidemic on the station and that was an interesting thing to view now. I managed not to yell at the screen whenever people made bad decisions, so you all should be very proud of me.
I actually started watching it because I recently started playing an RPG on Discord with a group of people and it's set in the Star Trek universe after the Dominion war and I knew nothing about the background. I am amused by the fact that the game contains inadvertent spoilers for the show, because of course everybody else has seen it already.
I've also been watching The Morning Show with BC and boy, that's been an experience. Especially given that there have been some recent revelations about an ex being a serial abuser.
It's hard to talk about. All my brain can seem to do is yell at me that I should have known better. NOT HELPFUL BRAIN, NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.

Date: 2020-07-03 05:15 pm (UTC)I know it's just a commonly used sobriquet by long-timers, but I've been Sio's friend online and in meat-space for, literally, decades. Since Usenet.
I sentence you to watch "Move Along Home" once a day for the next month.

Although, I am pretty sure the rules of the internet now require a series of escalating actions, starting with cutting memes, and ending in doxxing and/or swatting.

Date: 2020-07-01 02:32 am (UTC)We've had to walk later in the evening bc our supposedly 'low density''car-dependent' area is TEEMING with people. Car-dependent and low density no longer. There are two to four generations in most of these houses. It helps that everything is in fact walkable. A lot of people here have given up on sidewalk distancing, too.

Just hit S4.
Sio, it is so fucking good.
(and not just if you like Klingons)

At the time we hadn't had the Internet long, Spanish Flu was 80 years prior, and swine flu, SARS and MERS were unknown.
I watched The Visitor today and, I *almost* teared up.
I've also been watching The Morning Show with BC and boy, that's been an experience. Especially given that there have been some recent revelations about an ex being a serial abuser.
There's a lot to unpack there, none useful. And nothing I can say is.
But in Australia it was called Morning Wars.
