Write Every Day: Day 3
Nov. 3rd, 2020 08:08 pmTHIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS PEOPLE
This is my office, where I am currently working from home and also where I write, blog, and draw. As you can see, it's also my gym, my yoga studio and in the spring it's where I sprout the seedlings for my garden because it has the best natural light in the house.

I also used to like to go out for the occasional Saturday afternoon "laptop and beers" either by myself or with a small group of friends, but obviously that hasn't happened for a while. Hopefully quiet pubs and coffee shops will still exist once the apocalypse has finally stopped apocalypting.
So where do you write? Do you have a designated spot? Clear some space on the dining room table? The breakroom at work?

Date: 2020-11-04 01:39 am (UTC)I have a workroom, as well, with a big old enamel-topped farm table for a "desk" and bookshelves and an altar with a burbler fountain on top. It has lots of candles for the winter to bring light to the darkness and a killer computer sound system for playing moody instrumental music too. It's a cozy space that I really love. In the summer, I open the window, right outside of which is a cedar tree, where I'm frequently visited by inquisitive chickadees and the occasional thick-headed woodpecker who thinks the vinyl siding is the perfect place to hunt for bugs.
ETA: 592 words today before I got swept up in staring avidly at the election results, which I Must. Stop. Doing.

Date: 2020-11-04 04:10 pm (UTC)And I hear you about the election. I'm trying to avoid obsessing until everything is counted.

Date: 2020-11-04 01:42 am (UTC)I have a computer desk in my living room, with cats, kitchen and a view of the harbour all nice and handy. Occasionally I'll decamp to a cafe or the library with my phone and my bluetooth keyboard. :-)
4th: 500 of some of the clunkiest words I've ever written, on a Yuletide treat. I might try to fix them later, but right now I'm working on my weekly update post.

Date: 2020-11-04 04:24 pm (UTC)Well done on words, clunky or otherwise. :-)

Date: 2020-11-04 04:28 am (UTC)I used to do most of my writing sitting up in bed, but having the laptop at hand wasn't good for my sleep cycle. Now I sit on the sofa and use a lap desk.

Date: 2020-11-04 04:29 pm (UTC)Well done on getting some words down.

Date: 2020-11-04 04:56 am (UTC)I am most productive writing at the dining room table, which is now my general working table for everything. It's next to the french doors looking out into the back yard and gets the best light. But I spend more time sitting in an armchair by the front window with my laptop on a lap desk.
(no subject)
Date: 2020-11-04 04:44 pm (UTC)Oh boy. No kidding. Good for you for getting some progress made regardless.
You're the second person to mention a lap desk - I might have to look into those.

Date: 2020-11-04 05:28 am (UTC)I alternate between writing on or in bed and writing on the couch in the livingroom, which is more or less the space I'm also working from home, although I have graduated to using my office chair in the living room during the workday instead of the couch (I hate my office for reasons and cannot work in there).
(no subject)
Date: 2020-11-04 04:53 pm (UTC)To be fair it took me a long time to get this space set up to be comfortable. Previously I was in the living room with the cats (I'm allergic) and the clutter and the noise and it just wasn't working for me. I would never have taken a picture of that.
Well done on words!

Date: 2020-11-04 05:38 am (UTC)I write mostly at my desk in my livingroom, which is set up as a workspace with two desks, on for the work laptop and the other for my Mac. I also write on my phone, and in a pinch on paper, Phone and paper can happen anywhere.

Date: 2020-11-04 10:34 am (UTC)I have a cheap flatpack desk crammed into a corner of my bedroom, which is where I spend most of my time as I live alone and my room is the warmest and has the best light, and the best view. It's... cosy.
Nov 3rd - 1309 words, two challenge ficlets and a smidge of work on a story I want to expand from the 500 word limit of the challenge I originally wrote it for. It's gonna get smutty, y'all!
Also managed another 24 rows on my sleeve which is finished except for casting off. Then I can start sewing all the bits together and knit the neckband...

Date: 2020-11-04 12:30 pm (UTC)Wordcount for 3rd of November: 800 on poly fic + 200 on Yuletide treat
Total wordcount on poly fic: 32,900
Finished off the Yuletide treat! And did a little communication with my beta on the poly fic. To give myself some accountability: I should get started, even if only very little, on my actual Yuletide fic on the 4th...

Date: 2020-11-04 02:52 pm (UTC)And your trunk! I always wanted one... I think you have given the Gin Palace.. I was going to say less than stellar rating, but I guess when you live in a house you see the cracks, and old houses... whatchya gonna do?
What are in the small jars above the computer? They look sealed, so I guess not the seedings? The souls of the vanished?

Date: 2020-11-04 04:36 pm (UTC)Those jars are actually old incense resins and mixes.

Date: 2020-11-06 10:11 am (UTC)Well...
I can't remember how old the Gin Palace is, but I know it's beside a train line.
My house is 60-70yo (I think) and is on a busy road.
Just in the year I have been here I've had so many surficial cracks appear.
But you were being rhetorical!

Date: 2020-11-04 02:58 pm (UTC)I mostly write at my desk or while sitting on the couch. Especially right now, when I don't have anything really happening, it's about convenience more than anything else. (Occasionally, when I cannot sleep because a scene is in my head, I sit next to my bed and write on my phone until I get enough down that I can actually sleep.)

Date: 2020-11-04 08:12 pm (UTC)I used to keep a notebook next to bed to jot down dreams. I should start doing that again.

Date: 2020-11-04 08:15 pm (UTC)Where I write, plus checkin.
Date: 2020-11-04 04:37 pm (UTC)I have a little home office setup in the corner of the living room. At first this was just a chair and a nightstand. A few months ago I bought a cheap used bureau that worked okaaaay as a standing desk, and this led me to try a few other setups and finally get and set up a proper desk. So now that's where I write. I have my laptop's built-in monitor plus a secondary monitor, a separate keyboard with nice clicky keys, and a mouse -- this is quite a switch for me as I haven't had that kind of setup in many years, since before I started my own business. I have a view out the window and I can see trees, and that's really nice. And YES to natural light!

Date: 2020-11-04 10:55 pm (UTC)We have a "study" where both of our desks are and the larger part of our books live, also the room where I do the majority of my desk work and my writing during the day; also the reason why the spouse is doing home office at the dining room table, as he's having conference calls every day and I can't concentrate when he talks. But other when I'm doing NaNo or writing for a deadline, most of my writing happens in the late evening, when I'm in the living room at my laptop which I otherwise mostly use for gaming, or, in the summer, the same on the terrace outside. On the regular but not frequent occasions when I'm doing catsitting and have the morning shift (we're a voluntary assosiaction, taking care of each other's pets), I take my phone and a bluetooth keyboard and get some writing done on that while keeping the furries company for a bit longer. But if needs be or I'm in the mood, I'm writing literally everywhere, which is why the keyboard is a fixed item in my handbag, together with a power bank. ^^ I've once written the final version of an exchange story with on my laptop while my spouse drove us to Sweden. *g*
